My name is Jessie Hagan and I am a candidate for the Surprise City Council, District 1. I’m a 30 year old native Arizonan residing in the Bell Pointe community. I have lived in the West Valley for the last 18 years and plan to raise my 8 year old son here and hope to see him raise his family here, too.

As an employee of the Recreation Centers of Sun City West, I am the Superintendent overseeing the maintenance and operations of the Stardust and Deer Valley Golf Courses. My extensive experience in agronomics, strategic planning, budgeting, purchasing, and personnel management will be an important assets for city planning.

I am running for office because I see a need for positive, constructive leadership in what continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in Maricopa County. A member of the City Council must be responsive to the diverse needs and visions of all the people in the community. I can help guide Surprise into a dynamic future of responsible growth and development while preserving our natural resources. This approach will benefit all West Valley residents, not just those living within Surprise city limits.

Government functions best when it is responsive to the will of the people. We need elected officials with the life skills and leadership ability to truly understand the needs of the people they are leading. I will be the liaison between citizens of all generations and local government through district meetings with residents to learn their opinions and ideas.

The days of career politicians must to come to an end. We need to get back to electing true public servants, not self-serving career politicians who are willing to sacrifice integrity and the prosperity of our future generations for their own personal gain.

Every generation has an obligation to actively participate in the protection of our freedom, liberties, and resources to insure their continuance for future generations. We the people must become involved and elect leaders who can make our visions for change become a reality within all levels of government. We must all work to restore a functional government that works for us, not one that rules over us.

Surprise can grow into a world class city that ranks among the best in the world in quality of life. Together we can all share a future in a new, well-planned city that will be a role model for quality of life and sustainability for generations to come.

Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City , Georgia , just south of Atlanta , on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough , Georgia .  A simple notice in local papers indicated the route to be taken and the approximate time.
Nowadays, one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military.  Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice.  Georgia remains one of those graceful places.  The link below is a short travelogue of that day’s remarkable and painful journey.  But only watch this if you wish to have some of your faith in people restored.  Please share widely.  (text is quoted, words are not my own.)
